Wandering

Along the winding paths I have been, Through the trees that line the way, Smiled for the shadows on the stones, The joy of the journey in my wander, Alive for all the wonders I have seen,
Down through the valleys I did wind, Amongst the stones I have now trod, Heard the waterfalls in the distance, Felt the touch of that cooling breeze, A moment lost before the treasure find,
Awed by the sunrise in the frigid grey, Winter’s morning among misted trees, The warming light in the dry grass, Touch of cold dew upon my feet, Blessed to believe for one more day,
Seen to the horizon in summer’s heat, Atop a mountain of weathered stone, Peered through the trees to see the sky, Marvelled at the endless blue above, That stir of wonder in every heartbeat,
Roamed along the grassy shore, Endless pools reflecting the sky, Tranquil lakes of deep waters, Spread from horizon to mountain, To feel the need to wander all the more,
Found a great many hidden streams, Lost to those who have no need to seek, A respite from the world I know, There among the clear waters flow, Where the ripples catch the dreams,
Followed where the slow river flow, Vessels resting easy at their moorings, I strolled the banks without care of time, The afternoon sun brightens the flowers, As I wander with no place I need to go,
Brushed the pale dust from my eyes, Prized the stones taken from the red earth, Collected sand from an ancient inland sea, Fossil shells from a long-forgotten shore, Seen all that sparkles beneath sunlit skies,
Crossed the stormy seas rolling in the night, Touched the white sands of beaches afar, Watched fish of every colour among the coral, Sunsets over the water of an endless blue, Felt days that I never believed could be so bright,
Crossed the countless hills on a lonely trail, Laughed as the rains broke another drought, Saw once wilted eucalypts return to green, Scraped the red clay from the soles of my feet, And dreamt of one more time I could set sail.
