The Shore

God, I walked down to the shore,  Felt the rising of the tide,

Stare into the horizon,  For all I cannot see,  One more chance,  If only a moment,  To do it all again, Life worth the living,  Worth the dying,  God, can you tell,  What is to be of me,  Now that there’s,  Nothing left to give,

God, I walked down to the shore,  Felt the pain I try to hide,

The touch of the wind,  Memories of days gone,  Echoes lost in time,  And those moments,  When I felt the dark,  Steal the light,  Gripping at my faith,  To close my eyes, Find a dream to believe,  When the will to be,  Fade away in the night,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt only hope subside,

Dreams upon the waves, Dashed against the rocks,  One, then the other,  In shards they glitter,  Like the stones I keep, A worthless treasure,  I would trade,  For the joys now lost,  All that held meaning,  That I carelessly discarded,  God knows, at what cost,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt that great divide,

Caught between the here,  And the there I know,  I may never find,  Whatever yesterday held,  The hope of promise,  That when the journey ends,  It wasn’t walked alone,  Yet the truth I’ve seen,  As my time goes by,  Only an echo for company,  I have been the blind,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt my prayers denied,

For all the flowers,  In their bloom,  I have come to wilt,  Grey in the haze,  The ages passed,  Like the turning tides,  The seasons of the fall,  Leaves in the breeze,  Scattered to the sands,  Of time for its waste,  Leaving only the gloom,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt those tears once cried,

One last smile for me,  Another I wish to see again,  Love lost in the still,  Where yesterday ends,  And tomorrow never comes,  As I watch the waves,  Chasing the moon,  In its rise and fall,  Whispering as it goes,  A song for me to sing,  Beckoning me to the sea,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt life and death collide,

Where the water meets the sand,  Be no turning back,  Nothing to be left behind,  Long lost to their gaze,  To those hearts,  That once felt need to care,  None to reach for me,  A beckoning hand,  Nowhere I need to be,  Nothing left to find,  And it was, wasting time,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt a need to let the dice decide,

Time in its ebbs,  My soul in its flows,  Secrets to the grave,  Those promises I made,  Love is forever,  My God, forever has come,  As I walk along alone,  Lost beneath the heavens,  A familiar song in the night,  One more forsaken fantasy,  Another heart in its throes,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt the threads of fate defied,

Time fades into the silence,  Whispers chasing the winds,  As those tethers fray away,  And I now unravel,  Each strand in its turn,  Like the phases of the moon,  From the gloom, to the glow,  I remain another shadow,  Lost to the seas,  Another stranger here,  Awaiting that final hour,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt only sorrow as destiny lied,

Silent the mourning,  Shadows scatter to the light,  The truth of the dawn,  My reflections in waves,  Crash upon the shore,  Where I sense the rising waters,  As I am left a stranger on my knees,  Knelt in that last futile prayer,  Begging my deliverance,  For the hope to hold something more,  Than the nothing in my hands,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt only the silence inside,

Time strikes the bells, For me a blackened tune,  One last song,  Sung for the deafened,  A beautiful melody,  Painted across the sky,  For the pleasure of those,  With blinded eye,  As I come to close my own,  To face that final memory,  Where the waves bid welcome,

God, I walked down to the shore,

Felt the moment the fire died.
