Even As I dream

For me, the years have come and gone,  My youth, faded away to yesterday,  Somewhere along this road, I wandered,  A stranger to many, forgotten all the same,  Lost along the way, another mile to go,  Memories of better days, somewhere to be, Everywhere I have been, it lingers still,

Even when I dream, her smile burns on,

From deep misery, and my fall from grace,  To stand alone, for reasons I do not know,  Me against the clock, even if all is lost,  Time goes on, and everything fallen away,  I still hear the laughter, of another time,  When the sun shone brighter, in hope,

Of a promise made, or a beautiful lie now,

Even when I dream, her smile burns on,

I can smile, even in the face of my demise,  A life lived, or another one left to waste,  Held all that was precious, and nothing at all,  Loved her deeply true, now to wonder why,

When it never meant a word, not a memory,

All those years, all I got was grey and old,  Truth be told, what would ever be enough,  Even when I dream, her smile burns on,

A waste of time, chasing the shadows,  Counting cracks in the walls, one by one My words will outlive me, unread true,  All I ever was, confined to black and white,  Ink upon the pages, for the love of it still,  I can claim no mastery, nor coins in my purse,

But to me, it holds a beauty unrestrained,  Even when I dream, her smile burns on,

Against the grey, I have seen the green,

The colour, in my world of crying black,

Fair hair in the breeze, in that springtime sun, I let myself dream, what a love it could be,  Laugh now for my folly, truly a fool for a man,  Win or lose, the game goes on without me,  Who is keeping score, only my creator knows,  Even when I dream, her smile burns on,

Servitude to sadness, chained to my master,  One bleak day to the next, I stumbled on,  Through the valley, yearning to be,  Praying for death, or the will to climb,  Seek the mountain top again, or die,  Destiny once a lie, or fate so denied,  It matters not, the story remains to write,  Even as I dream, her smile burns on,

Loneliness is never free, a due to pay,  For me there is no escape, only time,  How much remains, one last mystery,  A price to be paid in blood, at my end,  Till I am done, the quill and the ink,  Eulogies for the living, glory for the dead,

Even if I fall, my love will prevail,  Even as I dream, her smile burns on,

On my journey to here, I took heed,  All those things still unsaid, never meant,  What was faith, and what was fantasy,  And in my empty hands, it was clear to see,  Nightmares and emptiness, come to pass,  If there is to be a tomorrow, there is life,  If I can reach out at take it, one last time,  Even as I dream, her smile burns on,
